Cave of the Seven Palaces (Almuñécar)

The Cave of the Seven Palaces is an underground cavity featuring a large stone vault that houses the Archaeological Museum of Almuñécar, located in the heart of the town. This cave was inhabited from the Bronze Age through to the Modern Age.

Inside the museum, visitors can discover architecture and decorative elements of Phoenician, Punic, Iberian, Roman, Christian and Arab origin, as well as the various exhibition rooms that make up the museum.

There are several theories regarding the purpose of the cave. It is believed to have formed part of an ancient Arab fortress and may have served as part of the royal stables.

Other historians suggest that it may have been a small water reservoir used for irrigating gardens or even a Roman construction designed as a portico to overcome the slope of the hill and level the terrain.

Distance from the hotel: 15 minutes (by car).
