Thanks to its elevated location, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the promontory, the sea and the town of Salobreña. On clear days, it is even possible to glimpse the African continent on the horizon.

The castle was not solely built for defensive purposes, as its interior also served as a prison for Arab nobility of the time.

According to historical records, several Arab monarchs were imprisoned within its walls, including Muhammad VIII, Abu Nasr Sa'd and Yusuf III.
